Overview

The Senior SQL Database Administrator is a highly responsible, technical and administrative database position managing a large scale environment, supporting all environment builds, capacity planning, installations, configurations, cluster setup, performance tuning and ongoing monitoring.  Work also involves providing consulting to multiple development teams on analysis, design, development, and performance tuning issues in a proactive manner - driving improvements in reliability and optimization to the database and application services. This position will support Microsoft SQL environments, but MongoDB experience is also required.  Experience with MySQL or any GCP technologies would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design, installation, configuration and upgrade of databases.
  • Coordinate the allocation of system storage and plans future database storage requirements.
  • Coordinate and create primary database objects.
  • Coordinate and modify the database structure, as necessary.
  • Coordinate and enroll users and maintain system security.
  • Provide development and maintenance of the physical database models.
  • Analyze and implement data security requirements.
  • Continually improve database administration standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to monitor and tune databases.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to backup and recover databases.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to archive data to appropriate targets.
  • Analyze, document and present database hardware and technology requirements.
  • Review database development activities to ensure they are performant and in conformance with design specifications and standards.
  • Provide comprehensive database trouble shooting
  • Assist application developers with best practices and tuning.
  • Maintain high customer satisfaction
  • Flexible with work schedule, on call and some travel.

 

Working relationship:

 

Internal

  • Reports to Sr Manager - Database Operations
  • Communicates closely with other Database team members.
  • Works closely with customers and development teams.
  • Works with all levels of management.

External

  • Interacts as part of an IT technical team with end users.
  • Communicates with outside vendors, contractors, and suppliers as needed.
  • Communicates with professional organizations and user groups as needed.

Qualifications

Education

 

Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field is required.

 

Experience

  • Seven to ten years of experience in Information Systems development and integration.
  • Seven to ten years of hands on experience with Microsoft SQL
  • Seven to ten years of hands on experience with Database High Availability
  • Seven to ten years of hands on experience with advanced coding T-SQL.
  • Seven to ten years of hands on experience with advanced SQL tuning in an Microsoft SQL environment.
  • Seven to ten years of hands on experience in support of application design and development.
  • Three to five years of hands on experience with MongoDB.
  • Three to five years of hands on experience with Windows, Windows Core, and/or Linux.

 

Skills

  • Strong ability to ascertain, interpret, design and document requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL RDBMS
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Windows and/or Windows Core.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with coding T-SQL.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Always On, SQL Replication and/or Log Shipping
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with SQL tuning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with tuning Microsoft SQL Database Engine.
